STP Turned The Heat On!

By Chase Bruder

Despite the rumors circulating the previous week STP may not show up for the concert on Labor Day, ended up being pure hearsay as the band rocked out with fire the final Les Schwab show of the summer. STP opened up with a powerful, spunk of energy with their first song being off STP’s early 90’s “Core” album called “”Plush.” STP then moved on to other well known songs including “Core” and others with a massive light display in the background of bright colors resembling the feelings of energy and soul. Shortly after the first song, the Lead Singer, Scott Weiland came out with an old school/ retro style megaphone which was carried with him at all times, singing through the speaker holding the microphone on the transmitting end. This retro looking piece of equipment seemed to be a unique way of tweaking the vocals of Weiland’s voice. Upon my returned from a quick thirst quenching break I was surprised to see the lead singer having left the stage and was positioned back towards the front of the beer garden in the middle of the crowd while singing at the top of his lungs with his red and white device. The stage lights shined on Weiland, like a prisonor escaping at night from jail. The crowd cheered louder as the Megaphone was raised on every high pitch of his voice. As the band played on, the energy of the crowd stayed high as STP ended with a Strong Encore of “Dead and Bloated.” Amazing to think as one looked around at the audience and saw people dressed in jackets and blankets on this chilly night, STP was able bring warmth to the audience with heat of their music. Definitely the best show of the summer!
